Duthie still enjoys his Friday nights at Rice Field

1961 Classmate Dave Duthie has worked on the down box as part of the chain crew for Elkhart Central High School since the fall of 1972.

Behind some help from Elkhart and Elkhart Central football coach Tom Kurth, Dave got the job on Friday nights.

For 48 seasons, Dave has spotted the ball on every down. He has only missed three games over 48 seasons.

For Dave, the love of sports began when he was a teacher. He taught for 3 years at LaSalle Elementary in Mishawaka…after that 36 years at Riverview Elementary in Elkhart.

Duthie, a cross country and baseball athlete at EHS, coached flag football, basketball, softball and track when he was a teacher. He enjoyed following those same kids that he coached when they went to high school.

When asked if he would like to continue to work on the sidelines, Dave commented. “Check with my wife “.

Good answer, Dave!!!!
