EHS 1961 classmate Norris Dryer passed away on October 30, 2014. Norris attended Indiana University graduating with a degree in mass communications . He then earned a master’s degree in music history from Boston University. His first job in radio was at WBRN in Big Rapids, Michigan and then he left for the public radio station WIAA at Interlochen, MI. After 2 years at Interlochen, he went with WIJOT-FM where he worked for 34 years. Norris played in numerous orchestras including the Interlochen Staff Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Indiana University Philharmonic and was beginning his 47th season with the Knoxville Symphony.
Norris was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan. He loved the music of Mozart, old buildings and cars of all types. He was passionate about progressive politics. At the time of his death, he was on the state wide ballot as the Green Party candidate for US Senator.
He is survived by two distant cousins . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
